Killer Napkins said: IMAGE comics were my favorite... they had the best artwork...

marvel always had awesoem covers.. yet the art inside was not comparable... (maybe times have changed, I havent picked up a comic in years)

yeah man, comics have radically changed and they actually respect writers and artists now. those image covers got me into comics.

Cant Draw/Can Write said: starting to get fucking jaked on the whole concept of image united. 6 out of 7 of the original image comic founders (of course comic book god jim lee isnt doing it, fuck), and every page is a jam piece where they draw their individual characters into the scene.

they just revealed the bad guy of the book to be spawn who died a while back in his own book.

    The series looks phenomenal

al simmons really? that's news to me. that book went to complete shit around issue 50.....i stopped after issue 112 or so cause i couldnt let go.

So my girlfriend took me into a comic store today, and popped my comic store cherry. I know, forgive me, but holy shit, it's probably the coolest thing I've stepped foot in.

So, where do I start? I want to start reading a series from the beginning that's going to make me want to read more.
  • PitchGrim

Old Man Logan has become one of my favorites but I'm surprised that no ones said Mike Mignola's Hellboy. It's got strong writing and great art.

    BPRD

    Hero Comics
    Green Lantern
    Avengers (Dark or New)

Ask your comic book clerk about all of these titles and he will show you what issue to start with.

    sssssssssssssssssssss
start with some trades man, easiest way to jump into stuff these days.

    my list:
    Punisher MAX
    Walking Dead
    Invincible
    Sleeper (2 seasons)
    Criminal
    Wanted
    Fables
    Preacher
    Old Man Logan
    Fantastic Four (millar)
    Ex Machina
Y the last man, if you want something more adult and slower paced.

green lantern is great but start with the return of hal jordan.
most DC stuff is so convoluted its hard to follow.

if you get into xmen get whedons Astonishing run.
but be careful, there's a lot of X trash, there's a whole messed up universe to deal with.

and to understand any of whats happening with avengers you need to start at civil war, or even get Captain America's Brubaker run.

Thanks man. Yeah like what you said - My only qualm with all of this is starting half way through a massive series and then having to back-track.. Theres a store near the one I went to the other day that sells (good condition) second hand comics for like 50c, so I'll be grabbing a ton soon. :)

I read into Kick Ass, and it definitely looks like a starting point. Also, (for obvious reasons) has anyone read Fathom?

I originally got my label name from a book named the last fathom, but it turns out there's also a comic, which I'm pretty keen to check out.
