went to the comic book store today and cleaned out my box. i got a bunch of stuff that i am excited about.

-green lantern, corps, blackest night and all the blackest night auxiliary titles.
-couple of issues of amazing spiderman
-captain america reborn 1-3
-conclusion to old man logan
-conclusion to utopia x
-a bunch of avengers comics
-like 5 issues of fantastic four
-last 3 issues of hulk
-first 3 issues of the new justice league:cry for justice series
-and 9 issues of jla

all this and i got a tivo today so i guess i don't have to leave my cave/room for a week or so.

so far blackest night is the book to read. haven't been this into a book since civil war (fuck final crisis).

im so fucking stoked to start on walking dead. I have a copy of the compendium waiting at the store in my box. its the first 48 issues in one book. I cant for the life of me figure out why i haven't been reading this book the whole time.

but superhero books haven't been this good since the early 90s. both DC and Marvel have both stepping up their game recently. as the comic book movies get worse their 28 page counterparts get better.
  • DanielAndHisArt

All i read is Tales From The Crypt and Captain America
  • Cant Draw Can Write

Dark avengers and New Avengers are legit as heck.
but i have felt mighty avengers getting shitty ever since bendis left. Kick ass was great but something happened with my pull list and i ended up with like issues 1 2 3 and 5 and no 4 6 or 7. mega lame so im just going to grab it up when it hits trade.

Ive been reading Y The Last Man, its pretty awesome. Gonna read Preacher when I finish Y.

holy shit, just got all caught up on blackest night and god damn this is the dream series to be reading right now. Its the dc universe versus heart ripping zombie versions of dead heroes and villains.

the book is on fire. Is there seriously no one else here reading this? and the art is amazing. some great zombie imagery of dead heroes.

Also old man logan conclusion was just as good as i was hopping. Steve Mcniven banged his game up. and the hulk slaughters were fucking brutal.

Wow look who I found on ustream.
he already gave me a good tip. The Faber Castell brush pens are two sided, so when you kill the tip you can pull it out and flip it for a new one.

Wow that was awesome. I got to see him draw super girl from scratch.
Heres the schedule for next time.

Batman: Haunted Gotham #2 by Doug Moench, Kelley Jones and John Beatty
  • xjoshuabelangerx

woa woa woa woa woa now! this is my kind of thread!
i'll tell you what though, as cool as i want Blackest Night to be, it's turning into a typical DC CRAM-AS-MANY-B-LIST-CHARACTERS-AS-WE-CAN-INTO-A-BOOK version of marvel zombies(which i didnt care for either). everything leading up to it has been awesome, and i hope this little stutter step doesn't kill the whole series. but i'm excited.

fantastic four with jonathan hickman has been amazing. i love how epic the books is now.

main stream comics have really stepped it up the past few years.
if anyone has the interest, i suggest picking up warren ellis and jose van ryp's BLACK SUMMER. best trade i've read in a long time.

no hero was right up there, but the story wasn't as impactful.

i can't wait for millar's follow up to old man logan...the best that wolverine books been in a decade.

dude, i don't see how your still reading hulk? it's written for 4yr olds! and since when can the punisher just cut the red hulk with a knife? come on!

if you havent gotten it yet, start from the beginning. punisher max is the best book of all time.

dude knowing the punisher it was probably an adamantium knife bro, and hulk has been a great read for the past couple of years. It surely has its dips in quality but the bruce jones run was amazing, planet hulk was fucking genius, world war hulk was something to write home about, and I am thoroughly enjoying the shit out of the red hulk arc, its park your brain at the door Ed McGuinnes and Art Adams cheescake art.

cant wait for red she hulk

might actually get some DC books after seeing the blackest night stuff.
just one question, what is the humpback (or gray) whale that aquaman is calling up supposed to do? i mean, everything else in picture can cause some damage, even the sperm/pilot/dolphin/porpoise skeleton thing up front.

well i loved planet hulk, and world war hulk could have been amazing, but they wimped out at the end hahaha, so whatever. and the whole red hulk thing made me so mad that i refuse to buy it. (thors hammer?) i page through it at the comic store just to see some of the art, but thats it.
i think as far as modern comics go, it's right at the bottom of the barrel!

This book is shit. I respected brubaker for bringing back bucky in a legitimate way and updating the character, and the death of captain america was epic and actually gave the book some weight. but bringing him back within two years is just a waste of time. I know they had to bring him back in time for the movie but this series just feels like a cheap band aid to a great scar.
  • xjoshuabelangerx

    sssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

see, i see where you're coming from. brubakers cap has been incredible, but i'm going to let this run it's course. i'm not sure how its all going to turn out, but, let's wait and see! the brain/time stuff is weird....

    backed %100.
1602 was horrible and so was his batman arc.
no disrespect to what gaiman did in the 80s but hes no longer relevant to us weekly readers.

if its comics these days it Brian Bendis, Geoff Johns, Grant Morisson (sometimes), or Mark Millar that are "nuff said" sir.

    grant morrison?
    ahahahaha no way.

the only good thing he can even claim is WE3, the first JLA arc......and i really can't think of anything else.
he absolutely killed Crisis. the guy is so out of touch he doesn't realize that he can't compete any longer. he's like chris claremont when they gave him his own X book to get him away from regualar xmen books. i dont remember the title right off.
but as far as Grant, i can't back that one.
    everyone else, you are correct.

you get the new spiderwoman book last week? with bendis/maleev?
we talked to him at a convention about how his stuff is all photoshopped (perfectly fine with me, his art is amazing regardless of how he produces it) and he got super embarrassed and was making excuses. but i love the art in the SW book.

    excited to read Haunt tonight.

spiderwoman is in the box waiting for me.

haha as far as Grant Morrison i agree that he absolutely fucked up on final crisis, his batman arcs, and 7 soldiers. He has some amazing work in his bibliography.

    WE3
    All Star Superman
Batman And Robin (new title slays)
    and 52.

to be fair i did say sometimes to cover my ass right off the bat. He seems to help with a bunch of other writers while a good amount of time flopping on his own titles. Hes the comic book equivelent of a banana, sometimes pretty good on his own (not all the time) but when mixing with his friends (the banana split reference works here) he always becomes better.
  • Cant Draw Can Write

wow the last 7 or so issues of Spider Man have been just absolute shit. The whole Anti Venom storyline was radical, then the American Son arc was meh, kind of okay, but everything since then has just been stupid romantic bullshit. This title better pick back up. But on the bright side I am hearing seriously good things about the new SM series Web of Spider Man focuses on 90s clone spider man Ben Reilly. I know a ton of people hated the clone saga but I was like 10 when it happened and I thought that shit was epic.

and now onto every JLA issue for 2009. haha. should have read this shit sooner.
  • Gonzo

I started with Y: The Last Man a few months back, got up to the third issue and It didn't really do it for me.
Ex Machina got tiresome around the same point too.
    is KickAss any good?

I'd much prefer one shots or volumes than keeping up with a series.
Thoughts on final crisis and planet/world war hulk? I've wanted to read those two for some time, but if it's not worth it I won't bother.
  • xjoshuabelangerx

alright, yeah Y the last man is one of those comics that you either have to be an avid reader wanting to jump to comics or a seasoned comic person to get into. i remember getting real bored with it but stuck through it and it ended up being a great story.

ex machina has been treading water for about a year, i feel it picked up the past few issues.

kickass is OK. its one of those comics thats just quick and violent. personally i dont think it's worth the money, i should have trade waited.

final crisis, could have been awesome, but it got written into shit and so convoluted that even people that have been reading DC for 20+ years were confused. grant morrison is a horrible writer, he's just being held afloat by a rabid fanbase that doesn't want to take a step back and see that's he's horrid. WWH was awesome for having potential, but marvel bailed on what could have been an amazing story of revenge. read planet hulk to see what i mean...i hate ruining stories for people so sorry for being cryptic. planet hulk beginning to end was great, but sets up WWH so your so incredibly pumped for it, and then they blow it.

serious man, punisher max is probably the best book going....ennis just left the book and the new guy hasn't really hit frank castles voice yet, but i feel he's close.
go get the hard covers. worth their weight in gold.

invincible has become one of my fav books too....it has a nice mix of comedy/teen drama/world ending seriousness.

I love Spider-Man, but I refuse to read it after they reversed the secret identity reveal thing, that just ruined it for me.

i refused to read thor, because for the longest time he was the lamest character. i read this run at the comic store a while back and was glad they were able to turn my opinion of Thor around into actually thinking he was cool.
before this, i think the only cool thor moment was "I SAY THEE NAY" and tore through onslaught to grab prof X.
hahaha i loved the onslaught story, i found out it was a big joke for the creators and they came up with it last minute. makes me sad because that was one of my favorite X stories.

starting to get fucking jaked on the whole concept of image united. 6 out of 7 of the original image comic founders (of course comic book god jim lee isnt doing it, fuck), and every page is a jam piece where they draw their individual characters into the scene.

for sure they changed. DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse, and Image all have both top notch rosters of artists and writers. Shit is crazy. Check out a trade at bookstore and see if you cant get into one.

seriously suggest you check out the walking dead.
