Posted September 6th, 2015 by THEGOODSHIT
I'm just wondering what it takes to be community selected? I am so sorry if I am too lazy to research about that bc I just want to get the answer from you guys. lol

I didn't really understand most of what you said because you haven't wrote it very well but in response to this:
"I guess the mentality here is that because of this community selected some designers aren't motivated to produce more"
If your only motivation for producing good work is community selected section of a virtually inactive website then yeah you're screwed mate... If you produce something good and upload it then now more than ever you have a shot of getting into community selected because barely anything good comes through mintees anymore. Half the stuff I see on CS I would never have put through myself. Some of us are on auto approve but a lot of us that are are already very well established so it's less of an urgency most weeks.
Would the site benefit from more active mods? yes certainly. Will the site owners ever do anything to revive this site? No I highly doubt it. They left it to rot ages ago

We didn't leave it to rot. The content fuels the site in many ways:
- More traffic from existing users
- More new users
- More engagement
The site still sees enough traffic and participation in advertising services to sustain itself + some, though traffic has been decreasing as time goes on.
Everyone has their theories, many blame the site design (which is hilarious and definitely wrong). I told Rob that I believe it is about a generation of designers who came up within Emptees, reigned on Mintees, then became less involved for various reasons (career path trajectory, less personal time to spend, etc). Another major contributor, and this is just my opinion, is Instagram.

Community Selected goes by "love" counts, buttttt because newer tees have less loves than older designs, there's a lot of old design generation stuff appearing daily and monthly. I contemplated capping the starting time limit on those functions, but I firmly believe the community will complain about us featuring tees with only a handful of likes, even if they ARE recent.
--
Ultimately, this site thrives on new content and new users. A lot of the interaction and content on this site comes from up-and-comers looking for advice or just starting out. They're met with hostility, sarcasm and a lack of empathy.
I visit this site and occasionally see a talk thread with a great potential subject (advice, opinions, feedback), then read the first comment is some uppity, sarcastic & snarky comment and I just shake my head in disappointment. Followed by a dozen more. Why would any of these new users come back?
You say we've left the site to rot? I disagree. Mintees (and previously Emptees) filled a need in the community. Mintees added all of the tools requested by the community except the one it cannot control: user interest and engagement.

What about adding more admins then who can vote on the CS tees? Also what about tweaking the algorithm for the tee of the day to make that attainable for newer members?
I don't think the aesthetics of the site are the reason for the decline either but it certainly won't help sell the place to new designers. It could be a very simple fix if you just kept the same exact layout but updated the style?

I replied a little bit about the algorithm thing. If enough people think this is a factor, I'll talk with the dev team and see what areas we should apply it to.
Maybe we'll do tees added in the last 6 months and calculate:
- Tee of the day
- Tee of the month
We could make sure Tee of the year only factors tees uploaded that year. I'm pretty sure that's what it does, but either way, we'll check into it.
Anyone else want this? Chime in so I can get a gauge.
Updating the design is nice, it's just a matter of resources and $, that's all. And unfortunately, it can't just be anyone shmo on the site who knows HTML. Re-theming requires advanced level web designer/developer, which we have, but costs $ and time.

I'd be down to be a voter. I'm a fan of these communities and it'd be cool to be more involved. I came in a bit late from the rest of the crowd.

I visit this page everyday to see what is going on, so I'd be down to help out in any I can. I know some people have complained about CS being slow and the voters were blamed, so if I could help out by just putting in some votes, I'd be game.

As Tom mentioned, I don't think the site's design is really pushing anyone away, but a new look could do wonders. Although I do understand the time and money involved in doing something that may not pay off.
As far as user interaction goes, that attitude's been standard since the site's beginning. Unfortunately, since most of the more renown designers dipped out, all that's left is up-and-comers and mid-level designers. With that comes silly questions that will undoubtedly be met with the aforementioned hostility and sarcasm. Which, in turn, pushes the up-and-comers away leaving the mid-level designers asking, "where the hell is everyone?".
I'm not sure what the solution for that is; as famously stated by Ser Bronn of the Blackwater:
I guess I'm just blagging on. TL;DR: More voters = good.

and one thing. I cannot edit and delete my posts too.
I don't know if it is just me with this kind of problem
Cameron Latham said about 5 years ago
If you have AdBlock, you'll have to turn it off for Mintees. AdBlock removes the edit and delete buttons on design pages for some reason.

I would be 100% up for voting on stuff and it would probably give me more incentive to check the site as these days I check it once a week at most as there's not much for me to do when I do find myself here.
Personally I really do think updating the algorithm would be beneficial... there was a time when people were super proud of being TOTD and I know newcomers aiming to make a mark on the industry would see it as a target.
I don't know much about web stuff but for me even if all mintees did was drop the grey gradients and drop shadows etc and have block black navigation backgrounds it would feel more up to date. But again I am not a web person

What happen to mintees? for the last 2 months I didn't get a side job from here and I hope this site will gets more lively and be better just like before.
Thanks
bsteczdesigns said about 5 years ago
I can definitely say that the client thing is not a Mintees thing. I've paid to promote probably 3 posts monthly or so, and I'll get quite a few inquiries from here for projects, not sure if it's the promoted bit or just people coming across my work. But I've had maybe 10~ different people emailing me from here wanting work since June. Clients do look through here, I guess it's more of a "are you what we want to hire for our tshirt" situation.

some of my design passed though the community selected section.but some are not :\
i don't understand the criteria to get passed to the community selected section..
Cameron Latham said about 5 years ago
It's ultimately up to the voters. Art is subjective. If I'm honest, I downvote about 95% of what gets submitted, but that's only one voter out of at least 20.

They aren't the worst I've seen... I'm not even saying they are overly bad but they aren't CS standard at all. the last 3 times I've logged in to vote there's been nothing in the queue because it's all getting up voted so fast
