am i the only one that hates USPS with a passion? i have about 4 or 5 packages i'm waiting for.

1 of them is coming from new zealand via DHL. i ordered it on the 6th and it is on the delivery truck today to my house. bravo DHL. 2 day shipping from new zealand.

all of my other packages are via USPS. i've ordered all of them over a week ago.

one of them was shipped on april 26th, and "out for delivery" on april 28th. i never got it. the most recent update was "processed through anaheim facility" and that was on the 3rd. no updates since then.

2 others have just been stuck in limbo and have been "processed at facility" for over a week.

am i the only one this is happening to? am i taking crazy pills?

I shipped packages in December to my buddy Ayse Designz in Portugal using USPS ... he didn't receive the package until last month.
It was a nightmare trying to get in touch with them. They basically told us "Sorry there is nothing we can do to find your package." USPS is the worst! Good luck brother.

I rarely get packages from DHL, but they always arrive quick and at a reasonable time of day.

USPS and UPS both have terrible service in my opinion. I'll stay home all day and they end up delivering it at 6pm.

Same here. They're both pretty awful. When I had Amazon Prime, I would get a fair portion of my packages from a delivery service called Ensenda that got things to me stupid early; like 9 in the morning within a day of ordering.

USPS has been having trouble. I send a prayer out to the almighty mail gods before shipping Abstruse orders out.

    THEY ARE THE WOOOOOOOORST.

my experience with ups is generally satisfactory. not amazing, but expected. the other night i received a package after 7pm even though they say it will arrive before then. i just happen to be at the end of their route i guess. all of my ups stuff generally arrives late.

but yeah USPS has been an absolute nightmare.

    seriously? wow

For the first time ever, I had a priority package delivered way later than it should've been. It sat for like 4 days after being "processed". Priority mail is supposed to ARRIVE to your door in 2-3 days. So, yeah. I've never had that happen before last week, so maybe they're getting worse.

Yeah, the only issues I've ever had with USPS stemmed from sending mail out with their normal "express" services (cheapest available option). If you spend an extra few bucks for Priority or insurance or anything else you usually get your packages quickly/when you're supposed to. Priority is exactly what it's name states - everything else can wait in their eyes.

I hate USPS with a fiery passion. The delivery guy always leaves the "you weren't home slip" in our mailbox even though we are there the entire day waiting on the packages and no doorbell ever rings. So then we have to wait in line for at least an hour to hour and a half to get the packages. I also have received SEVERAL packages (usually clothing stuff) that were opened up upon arrival and all the promo stuff like stickers and what not are gone. So frustrating.

    This, so many times.

They are really really bad. Awful service, very unreliable. We get complaints about packages being marked as "delivered" that were not actually delivered pretty much every single day. We also have plenty of cases where it takes them several weeks to deliver packages within the US. At our own house we get mail and packages for houses that aren't even all that close by (places that are even a mile away sometimes). This happens at least a few times per month.

The problem is that there aren't any cost effective alternatives for shipments under 1 lb. For heavier shipments FedEx is awesome, but they're too expensive for lightweight shipments.

What I do recommend (as a shipper), is building the cost of package loss into your shipping prices. Imagine you ship 100 packages per month with an average value of $30. Let's say USPS loses 3% of the shipments.

If it costs you an average of $2.50 to ship, charge $4.00 in shipping. You now have a $1.50 going into your "insurance" fund every time you ship. At the end of the month you'll have $150.00 in that fund and 3 packages will be lost (costing you $90 to replace). Your replacement cost is covered since you charged an extra $1.50 on every shipment.

The other thing you can do is for high value shipments (maybe shipments worth over $100) is add signature confirmation. Signature confirmation is often cheaper than paying for outside insurance and almost as good since USPS doesn't have the option to just leave the package in a gutter (which I am completely convinced they do sometimes). They have to get the intended recipient to sign for it.

I wish we could get Australia to take over our postal system. I am always in awe of how fast and reliable they are. We ship there all the time and those packages usually arrive in less than a week and we have yet to have an Australian customer complain about a lost shipment.

I never thought I would be sticking up for the USPS, but I can't remember the last time we had a domestic shipment go missing. We have stuff disappear in Europe all the time but if we don't have 100% accuracy in the US, its pretty close. We use Shipstation to print our labels with the barcode etc and i am really impressed with how well it works.

I definitely agree with meredith though about setting aside some extra shipping money to pay for what gets lost.
