Who's watching it and what's your thoughts on the case? If you haven't watched the show yet, I'd definitely recommend it. Also, this will probably be pretty spoiler heavy.

Theories, likes, dislikes, fan art, articles, whatever. Discuss.

Because the show is a work of art and who the fuck cares.

Also, I love this show so much. Spoilers ahead:

Seems pretty obvious that Cohle has been investigating the case for the past ten or whatever years, and that the government ( governer / task force? ) is involved with it, which is why he had to go off the grid. Don't know if thats a huge red herring though.

I feel like Marty's older daughter has definitely had encounters with the yellow king cult gang (the barbies, the sexual drawings, the crown she threw into the tree, lots of little hints and symbolism), I feel like that might be the apex of the show. I've heard some people theorize that Marty's the yellow king (he does have a touch of denial-based sociopath in him), but I don't really think thats the direction the shows going to go in.

I honestly have no idea. Are they going to go the obvious route with the government? The "surprise it was the main character!" route? The "just kidding, it was the creepy lawnmower guy all along!" route? I'm holding out to make judgements. Depending how this show plays out, it might take BrBa's place in my heart as the greatest TV show ever.

FINE I WILL WATCH THE SHOW
  • Kyle Crawford

looks like I need to find a way to watch it

Just watched 5 episodes in 1 night, I was reluctant to start watching it because I have hated every role that McConaughey has ever played (besides Eastbound & Down), but I love him in this show, especially the episode when he's 'Crash'.

What's so charming about True Detective is that every season is a self-contained story, season two will have a new cast, location, and time. I agree with you Cutty, this show has definitely filled the hole in my heart now that Breaking Bad is finished.

True Detective is pretty much what I wanted The Killing to be. The show is unique in many ways. The way the story is told, there is only one writer/showrunner, and only one director for every episode. It's really consistent and there is so much attention to detail.
  • Cameron Latham

I've heard nothing but good things about the show. Just finished House Of Cards and half the shows I watch are ending this season, so I'll definitely give this a watch.

Ended up binge-watching the entire series thus far yesterday. Definitely lives up to the hype.

As far as theories go, both Marty and Cohle are still easily shaken by anything that may allude to the Yellow King, so I think they know that they didn't really get their guy in '95. The lawnmower man definitely has something to offer to the mix, as he resembles the "green-eared spaghetti monster" mentioned in an earlier episode. Being that he mentioned his association with the government, that flirts with the possibility of government involvement. Governor Tuttle is a religious conservative and the threat of a Satanic/pagan murderer would only strengthen the already highly religious population of Louisiana. He also has ties to the school, so that seems to be the obvious route. But with the amount of symbolism and attention to detail, I feel like they have a few cards up their sleeves.

Probably my favorite show ever. Just drags you down with it.

This is exactly what I've been telling everyone. There have been some damn good shows over the years. But this one is probably the best show to ever be on tv. I don't think a series has ever been done so perfectly.

The character development and details are so good. I can't wait to see where it goes. It's definitely set up to go any direction they'd like to take it. I'm also a sucker for anything that skips time frames.

HBO finally stepped up their game with this one. You can tell they're throwing everything they have into it. Finally. Also, HBO's lack of commercials is a breath of fresh air. I can't watch The Walking Dead anymore, because they have commercials every 5 minutes.
  • JeffByNight

I finally watched all of the episodes all day Saturday. Definitely one of the best series on TV in a long time. It's really nothing new as far as concept or the whole Police partner detective show goes, but they have obviously made up for that with the Cast, and how well the show was written.
  • kevinsylvia

I think what really sets this show apart is the writing, and more specifically the show's creator being the sole writer of everything. It's his vision all the way through and it really does make a world of difference.
  • Lmerrill

I'm finally caught up! No real theories yet, just along for the ride.

Kyle, you don't have to actually download it to watch it, there are plenty of streaming sites like project free tv. Worth a lookin' at, maybe.

I'm all caught up too, so far this the best shows HBO has put out in a while in my opinion (all coming from someone who isn't into Game of Thrones and who lost interest in Boardwalk Empire halfway through season four). Definitely hooked at the moment, interested to see where the story leads. I've got a few theories, but I'll keep them quiet for now.

Same for me, except I still like Boardwalk. I don't think its the best show ever made, but its damn good and really well made. I'm really curious to see how it all pans out with only 2 episodes left.
  • WholeHearted

This show is amazing. The dialogue and anti religious/spiritual banter that McConaughey delivers is just the best. It's amazing how self aware and emotionally withdrawn his character is - he deserves an award for this show.
  • Jupit

it's kind of dragging right now, IMO. I accepted that is was a slow burner pretty much after two episodes, but in Ep. 6 nothing really much happened, that couldn't have been shown or told quicker.
But it's also good, that there's no real "lead" right now. Almost anybody could be involved.
I fear it's going to end ambiguous...
  • timofeie

Never really been into detective shows but this is so fucking awesome. Also not trying to spoiler anything to anyone but Ep. 4 ending (where they went to rob with these biker dudes) was seriously sick.

are we talking spoilers? well this is a spoiler. did anyone notice the closing shot of rust's busted tail light was the same tail light that was busted when he threw martin into his truck 10+ years earlier?

Yep. Not entirely sure what to make of it though.

Only two episodes left, so I feel like shit's really going to go down next episode. I like that they're taking the American Horror Story-esque anthology route with the show since detective/crime shows always seem drawn out after a while.

The way the shot was framed made it seem more significant than I think it really is. Chances are he was too busy with the case to give a shit about fixing it, since the light itself still worked.
