A pretty good lecture on all the superfluous "bullshit" content being put on the web and how as designers, content creators, digital creatives, etc. it is important to do what you can to try and be a part of the solution, not the problem. We're all guilty of this, just interesting to see it in this perspective.

Some crazy stats he pushes through.

4.5 million photos are uploaded to Flickr every day.
40 million photos are uploaded to Instagram every day.
300 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day.

In 1930, 1 billion photos were taken; in 1960, that tripled to 3 billion; in 1970, it more than tripled to 10 billion; in 1980, it more than doubled to 25 billion; in 1990, it more than doubled again, reaching 57 billion; in 2000, that number increased to 86 billion; and in 2012, the total amount of pictures taken more than quadrupled to 380 billion.

Of the 3.8 trillion photos ever taken, 10% were taken in the last year alone.

A friend shared this with me awhile back. That photo and the data stats are pretty crazy.

Also, makes me think of this video I saw the other day.

I love that video! I only wonder why she is so excited about her sub-par bowling performance.

sad but funny. this is how I feel, when I meet people - I don't own a smart phone or even just a simple mobile phone.

People at gigs / concerts holding their phones aloft and recording the entire show, not actually watching what is happening 10ft in front of them but watching their phone screen instead. That shit really makes my piss fizz.

Great talk and a great speaker.

Jargon is probably the thing that annoys me most. All day people who have nothing of value to say can hind behind specific-sounding but actually really vague words and phrases. I work at a consultancy and all I hear all day long is "leveraging", "having a conversation", "framework" and other strategy nonsense.
