Hello, I've been super inspired lately to learn and get dirty with some graphic work. Ill jump right in:

I'm working on a logo for a company called FLOWERS. Where the idea behind the brand (in short) is to pay attention to the little details in life. Every grand scheme is made up of little events that bring meaning to ones life. So slow down and smell the flowers. On a more physical level, products will range from floral button ups with unique prints & detilas/5panels/shirts/enamel pins with slightly more 'mature' refined designs for people (unisex 20-30 yrs?) keeping it fresh. Here are some sketches.

First idea: Font, Placement, Colors

Second idea:

Issues? Similar art i've seen out there:

http://www.tamaraguion.com/Happy%20Eye.htm

-I feel my flower logo doesn't reflect the aesthetic in mind. It needs to be a flower without being pussy
-Maybe it looks a little too cartoony..? Not sure.
-Can leaving vowels out of a name still work?
-If not, Other names include: Grand Scheme, Observer, Harmony, Notice, Gander

Ill post more process work as I progress.

I accept my work isn't up to your standards. Im a film/video major dabbling in graphic design.
My aim is to take a couple classes during my last semester.
Anyway, I feel the critiques on here help to an extent so thank you vury much

Not sure if I want this thread to end so I can stop cringing or if I want it to continue solely for the responses.

  • Eureka!!!

I posted three threads with far out weird stuff, from the full length double dragons movie on youtube to literally claiming someone else's company as my, and got two responses. This guy puts up a self-conscious, subpar logo thread and gets three pages of face-palms and critiques. What gives?

Can someone please lock this thread? I can't stand seeing it over and over again.

    Hahaa, what the fuck.

Never seen so many valuable critiques blindly ignored in one thread before.

I've tried to take everything into account but its just not working out..
Thanks for comments that say something and aren't just angry nonsense.

    Ill be back..

Honestly, Doctor, you should take a step back and reevaluate what you are looking for. No, not just for the brand, but what you stand for and what your end goals are. What you have demonstrated is that you aren't committed to making a brand, nor are you committed to a single concept. You keep jumping around, which isn't good, especially when you are first starting out. What you need to decide is what is your target audience, what is your message, what makes your designs stand out from the rest, and, really, why do you want to start a brand? Do you want to start one for money? Because, let me tell you, you'll be lucky to break even for the first year or two. Do you want to start one to seem cool? Start smoking, it's a hell of a lot cheaper. Do you want to start a brand because you truly enjoy fashion design? Who knows. You aren't going to get anything but angry comments because you've demonstrated your lack of commitment to your ideas to the people who, genuinely, tried to help you out.

So, in short, take a step back and figure out what you are doing and why you are doing it before you continue. I suggest not coming back until you've got a concrete theme and a name down, or else you'll just get tons of annoyed replies.

Damn, thanks for the response haydnchapman. So far(last few years) I've really enjoyed following the t-shirt design world. I've really enjoy dreaming up ideas for this potential brand and will continue to more forward because its something thats currently pulling me to do work. I love working on this stuff but clearly need to improve. So I can solely say Im doing it because I enjoy all aspects that collectively build what I'm imagining. There is lots of work to be done, and I'm here to help develop what skills I can.
I will advance to solidify a core identity and build a name/logo based off these ideas
If it appears i have ignored your advice or missed, I haven't

...They aren't working because you are blindly rushing through the process (read this again.... if the relevance of the blog hasnt sunk in, keep on reading it till it does - http://ia.net/blog/logo-bullshit-co-inc/ ).

If youre still not sold with the very essence of your brand then why on earth are you making logos? What is the point?

I read that and get that. Im need to do some thinking

Are you a troll or just 16 years old?

Do I really need to list my credentials to let you know why I'm qualified to critique your attempt at branding or can you just admit that this thread has turned into a total joke devoid of any purposeful direction? You came here looking for critiques, got them, then ignored every single one and jumped ship to a "new brand" 3 times.

If there is anyone is qualified to critique brands, it's will.i.am. He's sooooo talented. Truly a revolutionary.

But, if you can't get to him, then Jason Carne would be the go-to guy.

There's no point in trying to be constructive with you anymore. Everyone's advice and criticism has gone through one ear and out the other. Don't try to play the victim and make excuses for yourself when you put your work out on an open forum to be criticized.

It's not just you. If anyone on here flip-flopped their entire brand ideal three or four times over in the matter of one thread, they'd get the same treatment. If you can't see the genuine advice beyond the .GIFs and questioning whether or not you're a troll, then you shouldn't even bother starting a brand.

The apparel industry is a cutthroat, unforgiving place. People say that Mintees is full of assholes and elitists, but it's because we're the only design community (that I'm aware of) that won't hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a super job just for the sake of being nice. I feel like you knew that, being a member for a few years now. But once the spotlight shined negatively upon you, you didn't know what to do.

My advice: Lock the thread. You clearly can't accept the criticism and are only allowing yourself to further be made into a laughing stock.
  • Dr_Worm

Again, its not that i've ignored criticism or advice in this thread that I created. I'm clearly not up to design par because the advice just isn't being translated into my work.
Also, laugh all you want, I realize I'm in a professional design community and I've created a little disturbance with my amateur contributions. Im past it, and will continue to push ideas off the forum and cultivate my idea. I started this thread early in the process and need a little more structure before I start jumping ahead of myself.

Bless her for crafting an inspiration song that not only brings a much need motivational spirit to those affected by our economic slump, but also tackles the on going obesity epidemic. Influencing the creation of jobs while also urging people to live a healthier lifestyle

I suspect that after the release from iTunes tonight, the rates on unemployment and obesity will decline.

We are truly unworthy of this saint-like holiness she is giving our world <3

OK, last attempt to get this reasonably basic concept through. Then we can continue with the gifs.

You are far too fixated on the design phase. You are not getting shit because the designs are below par, its everything. No concept, no plan, no direction, and yet you continue to make these marks as if that will be the solution. Its a recipe for disaster, and that has been illustrated perfectly in this thread.

I do not believe that anyone could make a successful logo for this brand. There is no brand. Sure, plenty of people could make something aesthetically pleasing, but that does not make it a successful logo.

If you insist on going forward, start from the absolute start. You have an absolute shit ton of work to do before you are even close to the design phase.

Did you miss the part where I gave you pretty sound advice twice and even sketched something out for you? I only insulted you (and by insulted you mean asked if you were trolling because this is ridiculous) after you failed to acknowledge over 80 comments of fairly constructive criticism and ignored every bit of good advice given to you.

He was never looking for advice, thats the problem. He made it seem like he was but in reality he was just looking for us to say his shit was great because he thought it was great. He just wanted us to back up his already formed opinion. When he didn't get that, he jumped to something completely different because he can't accept criticism.
