Interesting. Dude's been making money out of biting famous artists' styles. What do you guys think of this? http://iamjustlucky.tumblr.com/post/40399257641/an-apology

What he did obviously wasn't right, but at least he's taking responsibility and is trying to right his wrongs.

I remember him being called out by Contino on Dribbble, and I remember his piss poor defense. Apology sounds sincere though, heres to hoping he starts a fresh.

    Is the piece/post still up?
  • Anthony Smith

Cant see it there. im not even sure it was a Contino piece that was being imitated, think it may have been a Cassaro design (ever upward?) but I definitely remember Cont. giving him what for.

I've known Drews work for a while... even saved a few pieces to the old "inspiration folder"

Obviously some of his pieces are style biting a bit but I think that he's been given too much crap for what it actually is if he's felt the need to publicly shame himself like that. On dribbble there are about a thousand contino wannabes... who cares really at the end of the day... but then I'm always unpopular for voicing opinions like this on here. Not every designer can be entirely original... it'd be a very quiet industry if they did have to be.

Every single one of us on here started out somewhere and I'll bet my own son that at you've all imitated a piece at some point as practice... I have. It's just as simple as the dude put it online... got freakishly popular by accident and now regrets posting his personal pieces online.

Huge respect to him for apologising but I hope he didn't get too much stick because it's obvious the guy has talent

His action shows character and maturity. Respect. Dude def got talent.

Interesting, I wish I would have known a bit more about the back story to this and the pieces in question.

Yeah the ever upward is the only one I can remember that was a clear rip. The worst part is I think it was for a sevenly shirt.

Wow, never though it would be Melton when I opened this thread, weird.

Very interesting topic. I'm not familiar enough with the situation to have an opinion, but going to dig deeper. I feel like this style is going to take a dip soon, so it'll be interesting to see what's next.

Agreed... any style that gets hyped as much as the Contino style can only have a limited shelf life. I imagine Contino will know this though and continue to evolve his style. The geek in me is always super excited to see what will rise next
