  • labyrinth

Damn, Rodney Mullen Jr. is pretty good.
  • jib

Incredible skill, even if that's not my taste of skateboarding...
I would tend to prefer this kind of skateboarding :

Going fast and technically consistent, doing lines, not just hammer after hammer...

I'm probably being over critical, but some of it was alright but a lot of his tricks were just dumb. Like that whole middle section whens he's doing pretty basic flatground tricks then starts spinning around with one foot for no reason. They should have cut that entire section. The music and tone of the video did nothing for me either. It just comes off as lame to me when you take those kinds of tricks too serious. Goof off tricks should look like goof off tricks. They're something you do to make you and your friends laugh. And I've come to realize that they only people who like Rodney Mullen type skating are people who don't actually skate or never took skating that seriously.

I can do plenty of goof off tricks, and even if I couldn't, that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on them. That would be like telling a film critic that he can't review movies unless he's actually made one himself. I've been skating for 10+ years, I think I know enough about it to be able to give my opinion on some video.

By putting goof in quotes, its goof off by the way, it tells me that you don't skate or never got into it enough, because thats what the majority of his tricks are. Not that theres anything wrong with doing those types of tricks, its just lame to take them super serious, especially when the dude is clearly good at doing regular tricks.

i believe thats in Santa Barbra

    so nuts.

While the skating itself is pretty damn cool, I wouldn`t really see it as changing the face of skateboarding..

It`s like novelty skateboarding, or niche skateboarding, and there`s been a whole bunch of skaters that have developed their own niche in the past, (and over my 20+ years of skateboarding I`ve seen a few) but it dosen`t become mainstream. Whle I can respect the level of skateboarding involved, it just dosen`t do all that much for me.
I must admit it was cool to see the primo slide back in action though..

All that being said, I`m not trying to take away from the guy, Skateboarding`s supposed to be about creativity and fun, and this guy seems to be have both.

I think that off of pure creativity, he's great. There are a ton of great skateboarders out there who can do really difficult tricks. At least he's being original.
